Dear Valued Customer,

We are contacting you today to let you know about an imminent PCB revision for the TS-7250-V3. New orders will begin to ship with the TS-7250-V3 Rev C PCB.

The previous TS-7250-V3 Rev. A boards were found to incorrectly deassert ISA_RESET# immediately on power on which would cause glitches on some devices. ISA_RESET is used to keep PC/104 peripherals in reset until power, clocks, and software are ready to correctly configure the peripheral. Deasserting ISA_RESET# early can cause glitches on some PC/104 peripherals and their I/O. The Rev. C board includes a bug fix to assert ISA_RESET# immediately on boot and keep it held until software is ready to configure the bus.

The Rev. C boards replace the old Silicon Labs supervisory microcontroller with a similar and more readily available Renesas RA4M2. This will enable the USB serial to function as a CDC ACM device. This USB serial device is supported by a standard device driver already in Linux, Windows, and macOS. This new supervisory microcontroller will also implement a new I2C peripheral which will provide some onboard and input power rail monitoring, a low power sleep mode, and a watchdog.

The STMicroelectronics M41T00S RTC is also experiencing long lead times and so it has also been replaced with this new supervisory microcontroller. The microcontroller will respond on the same I2C address as the previous RTC and will provide the same register interface as the older RTC chipset. This change will be compatible with the previous software and should otherwise be completely transparent.

Our software images and kernel sources will both receive updates to support these changes after the Rev. C boards arrive. We will provide another update when this kernel and supporting software image is available. Once these updates are in place, we do not expect any further functional changes to the TS-7250-V3 as it transitions from Engineering Sampling to full release.
