Shipping U-Boot, FPGA Revision 36, and Debian Image Update for TS-7100
Dear Valued Customer,
We are contacting you today to notify you of a Shipping U-Boot, FPGA Revision 36, and Debian Image Update for TS-7100 from embeddedTS. This coordinated update brings a new U-Boot release, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) revision 36, and Debian Linux shipping image to all TS-7100 variants in order to correct several reliability issues. All new TS-7100 shipments after Jun 30, 2026 will be programmed with the matched update, and systems shipped with this combination will operate normally with the corrected behavior.
Customers who use the standard embeddedTS shipping software on new orders should not need to make any changes. Customers who maintain custom U-Boot or Linux software, or who would like to validate the update before their next shipment, should review the compatibility details below.
The affected products are: TS-7100-Z
The new U-Boot release dated March 31, 2026, corrects a watchdog reset regression within U-Boot itself. The new FPGA revision 36 corrects the interrupt request (IRQ) design, adds IRQ support for the first bank of FPGA general-purpose input/output (GPIO) lines, including the terminal block input/output (I/O), and adds the required interrupt acknowledge handling in both the FPGA core and Linux driver. FPGA revision 36 also corrects a 16550 universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) interrupt issue that could cause a crash in certain workloads when a UART interrupt fires without correctly reporting received data.
As part of this FPGA revision, all onboard components using a serial peripheral interface (SPI) interface are now consolidated onto a single SPI controller. Onboard SPI devices affected by this requirement include the touchscreen, ferroelectric random-access memory (FRAM), and splash screen image. In order to support this change the updated Debian Linux image dated March 31, 2026, includes the corresponding driver support for this change. A March 31, 2026 image or later will still boot on boards with older FPGA revisions, and FPGA revision 36 or later will still boot older images. However, the SPI fix is only fully realized when FPGA revision 36 or later is used together with the March 31, 2026 image or later.

Please contact us before Jun 30, 2026 (4 months ago) if you would like to validate this update before your next shipment or if you anticipate any transition issues with custom software.
