Dear Valued Customer,

We are contacting you today to announce the upcoming TS-TPC-7990 Board Revison Change from Revision C to Revision E from embeddedTS.

embeddedTS strives to ensure the longevity and quality of our products. Recently, we were given End-of-Life notices on three components used on our TS-TPC-7990; the on-board 3-axis accelerometer, the 4-position connector for the resistive touchscreen, and the Gigabit Ethernet PHY. To address these items, we have created Revision E of the TS-TPC-7990 which utilizes new components with longer availability. There are no changes to the mechanical form factor of the product. However, there is a new shipping software image that includes U-Boot changes needed to support the new Ethernet PHY, an updated kernel, and application software for the replacement accelerometer solution.

The affected products are: TS-TPC-7990

Over the next several months all customers will be transitioned to the new Rev. E PCB of the TS-TPC-7990. The changes include: changing the accelerometer from a single component 3-axis accelerometer to a 2 component solution upgrading to a full Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with an accelerometer/gyrometer, and a magnetometer; a new more available 4-pin touch screen connector that will look a little different and provides the same retention force; and moving to a Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet PHY for better long term support.

In order to support the IMU and Ethernet PHY changes, a new build of U-Boot will be deployed as well as a software image with a kernel update that is compatible with the IMU hardware improvements. Additionally, application changes may be required for applications reading information from the IMU. This new software will begin shipping on all new units ahead of the Rev. E hardware.

For customers using customized U-Boot or kernel builds, please review the TS-TPC-7990 user manual for any changes needed to the kernel, bootloader, or applications.
